This January, join us in the heart of Somerset for a retreat woven from rest, creativity, and connection.
Set in Holm, our restaurant with rooms, nestled in a golden hamstone village near the Somerset Levels, this weekend invites you to pause, breathe, and embrace the quiet beauty of winter.
Across three days, we’ll gather for family-style feasts prepared by Chef Nicholas Balfe, share time in circle and candle-lit kundalini yoga, walk the winter countryside, and awaken creativity through painting and imagination. There will be space for stillness, for joy, for laughter, for music and dancing.
Together we’ll welcome the season as it is — crisp, dark, tender — and leave with intentions planted, carrying light into the months ahead.
Rhythm
Friday
Arrive from 3pm, settle into your room, and enjoy a warm welcome.
We’ll gather for a breath and intention circle before sharing a family-style supper, followed by stargazing and herbal tea.
The evening closes with candlelit movement and bedtime breaths to ease into rest.
Saturday
Begin the day with Kundalini and morning call.
A light breakfast will be followed by a partly silent winter walk through the countryside, ending with a picnic lunch on the Somerset Levels.
In the afternoon, immerse yourself in an oil painting session with artist Franny Watts.
We’ll return for a family-style supper, then close the day with an ecstatic dance session and gentle integration.
Sunday
A final morning of Kundalini and breathwork prepares us for an imaginative vision-setting session.
We’ll conclude the retreat with a celebratory brunch before departures.

Nicholas Balfe, my husband and the chef behind Holm, is a restaurateur with over 20 years’ experience in some of London’s most exciting kitchens. After training under celebrated chefs including Margot Henderson, Jackson Boxer, and the Young Turks collective, he went on to open acclaimed restaurants Salon, Levan, and Larry’s before moving to Somerset to found Holm. His cooking is rooted in provenance, seasonality, and creativity — an approach that has earned him both critical acclaim and a recent appearance on BBC’s Great British Menu. At Holm, Nicholas now brings his craft home, offering food that is both elegant and deeply connected to the land around us.

Frances Watts is Somerset based artist, inspired by the shifting colours and shapes of the rolling landscapes of the South West.
Often working en plein air, Frances paints at a fast pace, invariably using a palette knife or a large brush to respond to her surroundings with vibrancy and texture. Often employing vivid and striking colour palettes such as hot pinks and warm greens on board, Frances' works result in a refreshing, abstract, and modern twist on traditional landscape painting.
