On Cassidy Moses

“Learning more about myself has helped me to be okay with how different and similar I am from those around me. Emphasis on learning about ourself, is very important because we don’t wake up and understand the ins and outs of our inner psyche. That comes with self actualization. It is a journey of self. A journey that if we are willing to accept that it does not happen overnight, can be one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.”

— Cassidy Moses

I met Cassidy a few years ago. Her warmth and charisma stayed with me and I knew that we would meet again. I was thrilled to find out that she had trained as a life coach and she accepted my invitation to hone her newly acquired skills for On Balance. She will be our in house life coach for our upcoming membership GUIDED and I hope that you get a feel for all that Cassidy is and what she will bring to the workshops from our interview below.

on finding life balance… Balance is like a scale that tips either way depending on how I’m feeling, how I’m taking care of myself, and the energy in my surroundings. I believe that balance can only be found within, it’s at our core. If we have found the feeling within and know it deeply, we can return to balance whenever the scale feels like it has tipped to far on one side.

on the importance of community… Audre Lorde states that, “Without community, there is no liberation.” We cannot achieve anything without the support of others. Whether that support is coming from a plant, an animal, or a human being, we need others to survive. To take it to the next level, which is to thrive, we need others to feel connected, loved, and cared for. When we feel safe within our body and safe within our chosen community we can make a collective change in our environment and build an even more beautiful world.

on self-discovery and creativity… I define self-discovery as a return to our highest self. This return, is the pavement of my life which I journaled about, reflected on, and sought help when necessary. I could not have done this without getting creative in how I care for myself. I don’t always have the money or access to a therapist, spa, or a relaxing vacation, but what I can do is empty my mind on a piece of paper. I can write through the tears and frustrations and experience a sense of release. What I can do is set a bath and throw some honey and basil in the water. What I can do is take myself for a walk on a beautiful day or call a special person who makes me feel loved.

Learning more about myself has helped me to be okay with how different and similar I am from those around me. Emphasis on learning about ourself, is very important because we don’t wake up and understand the ins and outs of our inner psyche. That comes with self actualization. It is a journey of self. A journey that if we are willing to accept that it does not happen overnight, can be one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.

Natali — Can you touch upon your upbringing focussing on any parts of your growth that felt significant in creating who you are today?

Cassidy — My family means everything to me, I am inspired by their joy and resilience. They were my closest friends growing up and still are, but at after awhile, pleasing them was taking priority over searching for what I wanted as an individual. When I recognized I wasn’t living my life for myself and that there was a reason why I felt so depressed and on edge all the time, I knew I had to make a change. Once I recognized that I wanted to do things differently I started attracting more love and positivity in my life. I started traveling more and developed a deeper connection to the earth and those around me. I found the courage to move to England, even though I had never visited there before. Hah!

The most impactful event in my childhood was going to visit my family in Jamaica when I was 12. My mother and father were both born there so I had the privilege of seeing that country through the eyes of those who had been raised there. I have never forgotten the twinkle in the eyes of my family members or the feeling of belonging. It was as if I had been there my whole life. Because of the love and safety that was provided to me as a child, I feel free to heal those parts of my self that previous generations were not able to. Who I am today is a person that is wise, caring, and growing into my highest self.

Natali —Please describe how self-discovery has manifested in your life so far, does it play a part?

Cassidy —Self-discovery is what I strive for. It has manifested as the realization of my values in life and helped me to live in alignment with them. This pandemic, though scary and painful, has given me a unique opportunity to discover myself on a deeper level. I would never have followed the path of a life coach if I did not have so much time to contemplate and search for something I could do to help others get though this period of isolation. Through the process of becoming a life coach, I have been able to coach myself and it has been transformational. I am now more aware of what makes me feel whole and I feel empowered to check my energy when somethings feels off and reengage my balance. This transformation has also helped me to be okay with those parts of myself that are still in doubt and hurting.

Natali —We worked together briefly a few years ago, I remembered your warmth and I knew I wanted to cross paths again. It was so fortuitous that you trained as a life coach. Please talk to me about that journey.

Cassidy —I am so grateful for this chance to work with you again! I always hoped we would find a chance to collaborate and I couldn’t be more proud of what you are creating with On Balance.

Since 2019, I have been working for the National Museum of African American History & Culture in the Education Department. In this position, I have been helping to organize and facilitate programs for the public and it has been a joy connecting with our audience and seeing how much they gained from these experiences. At the same time, I have been coaching lacrosse and have enjoyed training the amazing girls on my team.

I always find a way to be in a space where learning and connection happens and if can do anything to make that experience better for others, I take it.

My connection with people of all ages, cultures, and experiences through my collegiate education, my work with the museum, and my work with young and impressionable females have paved my path to life coaching. When the ad for the life coaching certification school popped up on my screen, I knew I had to respond. Props to their marketing team and props to me for realizing it was a moment to seize.

Natali —Can you talk to your relationship with your physical body?

Cassidy —I feel very vulnerable answering this question. My physical body carries the story of my life. I look at certain parts and remember happy and painful memories. At this stage of my life, I make it my priority to care for the health of my body and to learn to love every part of it.

Natali —You’re at the beginning of your career as a life coach, can you visualise the type of career and impact that you want to have?

Cassidy —Yes! As I am giving birth to this career I have been thinking about why I have chosen to do this. A big part of me feels like I don’t have a choice in this. I just know I was placed on this earth to serve others. This instinctual urge I have to connect with those that I vibe with and help them to clear away obstacles is at the root of all that I do.

When I think about the impact I want to have on others through my career, all that comes to mind is freedom. Helping others to free themselves of all that is not theirs to carry.

Finally, what can we expect from you in our workshop GUIDED?

The biggest thing participants will experience in my workshops is awareness. You will be asked questions that reveal parts of yourself unknown or parts that need revisiting. I have curated them to connect as a 6-month journey of self-discovery and will still be beneficial as individual workshops. Expect to see me smiling from ear to ear at the fact that others have showed up and are willing to learn about how they can take small steps towards their undeniable success.
