PRACTICAL

“The time you spend washing dishes and doing all your other everyday tasks is precious. It is a time for being alive. When you practice mindful living, peace will bloom during your daily activities.”

– Thich Nhat Hanh

Sometimes we don’t have time that we can carve out for ourselves. Our lives can become full of responsibilities, and whilst trying to snatch even a few moments to ourselves should be possible, we sometimes feel resistance. A daily practice doesn’t have to include an elaborate set of rituals. Instead, you can choose to make your day your practice. For example, your children/co-workers/family can become your meditation whilst you hold the word patience in your head for that day. Household chores can take on a new meaning when you bring your full attention to them, taking your time and working diligently. Being mindful whilst eating can also be a practice in itself. Bringing it back to the simple things can be just what we need occasionally.
